“Porn” is undoubtedly one of the most popular keywords on the internet today, and could be arguably one of the most attention grabbing words in media as a whole.
In the past, the words Pornography and Porn have been seen as taboo terms in every day conversation within the United States. As a writer and editor for PornoNewsNetwork.com, the word “Porn” encompasses almost everything I work with. The taboo nature is still very much alive in my work, but it’s awe inspiring utterance has faded almost completely within my mind. I am sure most, if not all, of our readers have experienced much of the same feeling in reference to the subject.
Recently, I have seen blatant misuses of the word “Porn” beginning to show up across the web. Although I can’t blame intelligent individuals for taking advantage of such a powerful and controversial term, the subjects to which “Porn” is being linked are absolutely asinine.
Example #1: StairPorn.org
This blog is dedicated to bringing Stair lovers pictures of beautiful and interesting flights of steps from around the world. On the home page of this homage to the manual raising of one’s body a level higher, it states this:
“stair porn™ is a weblog showcasing cool stairs from around the world. If you came here looking for sex, you’re plumb outta luck, bub.”
…speechless…
Ok, I can accept this as a simple mistake in terminology. The term this blog is obviously looking for in replacement of “Porn”, is “Objectum Sexuality.” Objectum Sexuality is a pronounced emotional desire towards particular inanimate objects. The individuals who write this blog feel strong feelings of arousal, attraction, love, and commitment to stairs. For them, sexual or even close emotional relationships with humans are incomprehensible. So the next time you find a man naked, humping the nearest stair case, just pat him on the back and say, “Hey! StairPorn.org is a pretty cool site.”
Example #2: 2012: End-of-World Disaster Porn
This “TIME” article, written by Richard Corliss, is a review of the up-coming blockbuster “2012″ starring John Cusack. Although I can understand the reference to an ongoing, non-stop melee of horrible natural disasters, I still fail to see the sexuality in “OH MY GOD WE’RE ALL ABOUT TO DIE!!!!!” If the Mayan nation, who foretold the looming events of the year 2012, had wanted the destruction of our civilization to be referenced as sexual, then I believe their depictions would have looked a lot more like a GGG orgy film than hellfire and brimstone.
Example #3: Now Playing at Your Local Multiplex: Torture Porn
This article was written by David Edelstein for New York Magazine’s website in 2006. The term “Torture Porn” has been used more recently to describe movies, such as the “Saw” series, for their unadulterated torture and gore. Again, where is the sexuality? I can confess to having seen plenty of horror films where a sexual situation is turned violently grotesque, but we’d all be lying to ourselves in order to believe that is what “Torture Porn” is referring to.
David, I will make a bet with you. We can both sit down and watch a screening of “Saw IV.” If either of us can generate an erection while seeing a limb being severed from a human body, i’ll pay you a dollar and let you kick me in the ass. Otherwise, quit shamelessly plugging keywords in order to generate readership for things that aren’t related to your title work.
“Porn” is a term the Adult Industry has embodied, protected, and loved dearly for generations. We make our lives submersed in the taboo where others would never wish to associate themselves. Now those who have slandered our beloved “Porn” for decades are suddenly finding it acceptable to append unrelated subjects with it. Wait, this is a fun game! Let’s see what else we can come up with…
